$5 & $10 Fare Tickets
The railway line was originally founded in 1852 as the Charlotte and South Carolina Railroad; the fare tickets were good for one or two passengers for 100 miles. The railway line was later acquired in 1878 by the Richmond and Danville Railroad Co. of Virginia, which was expanding in order to provide better service throughout the South. The American Bank Note Company engraved the tickets. The $10 Fare ticket has colorful green tints and a great train vignette. Around the image of the train are two women figures; one holding a wheat bundle while the other holding a flower. This note was good for 100 miles. This was done to get around the currency regulations that followed the Civil War. This offering includes 1 -$5 & 1 -$10 Charlotte, Columbia and Augusta Rail Road Company "Fare Tickets" in fine to very fine condition. Each note comes in a protective currency sleeve.
